Elevating Transit: Intro
Elevating Transit: Transit Experience Redefined Through Sustainability
In today’s world, where innovation and sustainability shape the future of design, this project serves to reunite communities in Hawaii through efficient and elevated transit. Within the interior rectangular footprint of 500' by 750' is an urban train station that uses modernity and sophistication to create a functional yet aesthetically captivating transit space for locals and tourists. Biophilic principles are central to the design both inside and out, fostering a harmonious connection between nature and architecture. The custom furniture featuring parametric wooden slabs forms a continuous curvilinear line for optimal seating.

The green roof's outer framework features two elegantly curved, arched structures crafted from Triple-Laminated Glass enhanced with Low-E coatings and SentryGlas interlayers. Each arched structure has an elliptical-shaped opening with a diameter of 150 feet, designed to provide both strength and energy efficiency. A hemispherical dome at the center of the roof introduces natural light and ventilation to the interior space. All glazing on the roof has an additional hydrophobic coating for ease of maintenance.
Elevating Transit: Boarding Platform

The boarding platform of the high-speed train station is designed to ensure accessibility, functionality, and comfort for all commuters. The platform features multi-directional stairways and elevators strategically positioned to provide direct access from the interior. The inclusion of four two-way escalators and stairs ensures compliance with accessibility standards, catering to individuals with mobility challenges while enhancing overall passenger flow. Additional seating is integrated into the platform design, offering space for commuters to rest and wait comfortably.

Apple's Event Venue: Site Plan

Site Overview:
The site is an artistic and functional extension of the two structures, blending design, branding, and visitor experience. The southwest area features a crescent-shaped interior landscaping turf, paying homage to the brand's identity by symbolizing the stem of an apple in its iconic logo. Toward the center is, engineered hardwood flooring that transitions visitors into the main structure, enhancing visual appeal and guiding movement within the site. In Houston's warm climate, shaded areas under a striking parametric canopy offer comfort, complemented by vibrant floral accents. The north end boasts an upper deck with terrazzo flooring, providing a serene vantage point for panoramic views, enriching the immersive visitor experience.

A Healing Environment: Optimizing Patient Care
This project reimagines hospital design with a focus on a custom-made hospital bed, a vital element of human-centered care, recognizing that patients spend most of their recovery time in bed. This hospital bed combines ergonomic comfort and advanced functionality while harmonizing with the broader architectural and interior design of the hospital. Central to this vision is a patient room design that balances shared spaces with personalized environments, ensuring that all four patients feel a sense of individuality and comfort. By integrating spatial dividers, the design fosters privacy, accessibility, and emotional well-being. This endeavor reflects the convergence of cutting-edge materials, sustainable innovation, and patient-first principles to elevate the healthcare experience.

A Healing Environment: Custom Hospital Bed

The hospital bed is designed with a powder-coated metal base frame to ensure structural integrity is capable of supporting adjustable mechanisms and high weight capacities. Electric actuators are integrated to provide smooth and seamless adjustment of the bed's positions. Oak hardwood with durable veneers is utilized for the wood components, finished with a hospital-grade sealant to enhance longevity and resistance to cleaning chemicals and scratches. The mattress platform features a multi-section design for adjustable back, seat, and leg support, with ventilation holes or breathable materials to reduce heat buildup. Mechanically foldable + detachable side rails ensure safe patient transfer and are mounted securely to withstand repeated use. Heavy-duty casters with locking mechanisms enable smooth mobility and secure placement on hospital floors. The high-density foam mattress incorporates pressure-relief zones to prevent bedsores, covered with antimicrobial, waterproof fabric in dark tones for practicality and a soft-touch texture for comfort. Electrical components, where applicable, allow motorized adjustments with accessible controls for both patients and staff, fully compliant with medical equipment safety standards.

Fostering Creativity: Redesigning Burk Hall’s Classroom & Materials Lab

Project Overview:
Our project involves the comprehensive redesign of the Interior Design classroom and adjoining lighting lab within the FINA Department at San Francisco State University, situated in Burk Hall, Rooms 334 and 336. The goal is to create a dynamic, functional, and aesthetically engaging space that maximizes the accurate use of available space, relocates storage solutions, and enhances the overall functionality for students and faculty. We aim to foster an inspiring and efficient learning environment by integrating innovative design strategies.

Fostering Creativity: Original Layout Configuration

Proposed Classroom Configuration I: The Pods
Ideal for in-class group activities and projects for groups of 6-8 students. The first configuration is the most ideal layout in terms of capacity use, client preference, dimensions that meet accessibility needs, and effective use of negative space. Every seat receives an optimal view of the projectors and sound that comes from all four corners of the offset ceiling.

Classroom Configuration III: Organic Flow
The second variation is best suited for independent work where a computer is needed for each student. Both projectors allow for optimal room, and the negative space on the far right is great for accessibility needs.

Classroom Configuration III: The Squiggle
The third variation comes from a request made by the client where each table set is a crescent/half-circle shape with modular features so they can be reconfigured. Each row demonstrates the different ways the tables can be reconfigured simply by rotating the ends of the table. This variation is suitable for long lectures and individual work.
